I downgraded libdrm-intel1 to 2.4.26-1ubuntu1 from Oneiric, but the
problem remains. So on Precise it doesn't seem to be the cause. (I'm not
using the Xorg-edgers PPA.)

Hi, i've had the same Problem but i resolved it now.
It sounds like an error in the libdrm-intel1 package with the version
2.4.19-git20111215...
To resolve use the previous version since a new version is available.
1) show actual version
dpkg -l |grep libdrm-intel
ii
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
