My patch would break tvout support for other cards so I won`t submit it
as a patch. I can say I found the problem and have locally fixed it. In
the kernel code there is kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_tv.c that

Hi. I'm having the same problem with the VGA output.
VGA output was working with Ubuntu 10.04.and now it is not with Ubuntu 12.04:
The system recognizes that a monitor is plugged but there's no image on
the screen.
I have an acer aspire 5720:

With the latest kernel update 3.2.0.27.29 the problems seems mostly
fixed. If you boot the computer with the svideo cable attached then the
tv is recognized and a display appears. Awesome!!! No more booting to
Windows for watching a movie on my tv (Always proof for my buddies that
linux sucked...)
For me as well, Intel GMA945 in HP Pavilion dv2105ea :(

I have the same problem. TV-out (svideo) worked in 10.04, upgraded to
12.04 and now everything works as before except for the picture
appearing, just as described above (also an Intel GM965 integrated video
card).
