looks like you mean xserver-xorg-input-synaptics instead of xserver-
xorg-input-evdev. I have the version xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
1.5.99~git20120223-0ubuntu1 installed now and haven't experienced a
crash since few days.

and seems to be the latest in the repository. where do I get that
version you mentioned?

Please update to xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1.5.99~git20120220-0ubuntu3
and verify if it resolves this crash. Your backtrace is different but
similar enough I suspect it may be fixed by that change.
