I did a fresh install of 12.04 and then tried to install fglrx-updates
through jockey. Jockey ended with an error. I attached the jockey.log.
Installation through synaptic was ok and fglrx is working now.

@Jochen: Are you sure it worked ? I tried to reinstall the fglrx-updates
and though it was installed I got an error that there was an error
installing fglrx-updates:

@Reinhard: yes I'm sure. Otherwise vainfo would not show which video profiles
are supported on my gpu.
I'm using Ubuntu 32-bit. Maybe you have 64-bit and there is one more bug with
this version?

Ok i found a solution
the package module-assistant was missing
after
sudo apt-get install module-assistant
i was able to install the fglrx packages seems like jockey should check
for this package
