I don't know if it's relevant or not, but just in case: I notice when Firefox is running I'm getting a lot of errors stating "Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" I don't have an Nvidia card in this machine and haven't a clue wh

Thanks! It does indeed say 2.21.2. However, this hasn't stopped the crashes, I'm afraid. On launching Firefox this morning, X crashed straight out to the Ubuntu login screen again. I'd say this happens at least 50 percent of the time. Sometimes I'll have to try to start Firefox three or four times

Heh, I would have said the recommendation was to use 12.04 in order to get the fixes backported. Having said that, it should be as easy as: $ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-intel $ git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel $ cd xf86-video-intel $ ./autogen.sh

If I've diagnosed this correctly (and there is no guarrantee that the bug you hit today is still the same one), then an update of xserver- xorg-video-intel to about 2.19 should fix up the remaining issues. I highly recommend the packages in raring ;-) -- You received this bug notification because
