Thank you for your comment. The fact of the matter was, that a video
driver was at fault. About two weeks ago an update replaced the then
current video driver and the problem was fixed. So much so, that I
don't even have to adjust the sound to HDMI as was the case before.
The problem was solved
The fact that none of the action on the laptop is taking place on the TV
might be because you have 'mirror displays' disabled in system settings
- Displays.
