I have a very similar issue with Nvidia driver as well. Mine is a 12.04 AMD64 machine. The symptom is very similar. Everything worked fine until when I try to logout (which I believe will go back to Framebuffer based lightdm) the machine freezes. Nouveau driver doesn't have the same problem and I

This seem to be related to frame buffer mode. If I enable text mode console in the grub script, then the console Ctrl+Alt+Fx works fine. But when returning to the graphic screen Ctrl+Alt+F7 the screen is totally corrupted. Moving the mouse repaints the screen back to normal. So far it has not locke
