Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 was working fine on my lenovo Y560 laptop, but an upgrade
to 12.04 has left it close to inoperable. Symptoms include:

o The mouse cursor remains frozen at center of screen -- neither the touchpad
nor any USB mouse I plug in has any effect on it

o The eth0 device does not seem to exist, even after uninstalling network
manager,
     manually editing /etc/network/interfaces and rebooting

o My USB memory stick no longer mounts

I have a sneaky feeling that all these symptoms are due to a failure in
a USB interface driver.

I am not sure that this is an xorg bug, but I've been advised to file it
as such.

The reason I can't use ubuntu-bug to report this bug arises from the
symptoms.
