I have the same problem. HP DV4-2148, fresh ubuntu 12.04 install.
Installed fglrx. the laptop does not shutdown. It shows ubuntu with five
white dots and just hangs forever.

I fixed it with changing my bios settings (see attachment) and then
calling
sudo su
update-grub
apt-get install fglrx-updates
aticonfig --initial
update-grub

I have the same problem. Thinkpad t 500, fresh ubuntu 12.04 install.
After 'aptitude install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates' the laptop
does not shutdown. It shows ubuntu with five white dots and just hangs
forever.

But when my ubuntu box showed the screen that you attached when shutting

Same problems here with My Ubuntu 12.04 box (amd64/Linux
3.2.0-24-generic), pictures of the system shutdown outputs are attached.
Shutdown and reboot started working properly after the fglrx drivers are
removed.

And I Googled a bunch of workarounds for the ugly boot screen. I tried
all of them and it just made the boot screen disappear(because those
workarounds are for ubuntu 10.04).
