I see similar effects (crashes related to firefox/maybe flash) with the
same Intel graphics controler since an update to ubuntu 12.10 32bit. Are
there any updates on this issue? Is there a known fix?

The system: locks up, disables the screen permanently (allowing reboot
by ssh), restarts X with no user action or causes random applications
(most likely: Firefox) to crash. Sometimes visual artifacts can be seen
such as colorful bands. Also, a kernel panic
