I get this. I believe that creating those links that were mentioned would fix
the problem, as I tried to link them and X started and worked right for a while
(then crashed, because I think I created the symlinks wrong).

the end of the file seems to indicate a loop as it outputs the data stream
about the Dell 19" monitor 8 times then just dies with no log ends message.
In the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old it is output 9 times but there is a log ends
message.

An interesting issue in this case is that on boot both monitors are
mirroed together. They remain powered up and mirrored until well after
the GRUB boot, the secondary monitor goes into power saving mode as the
X server starts up.
