Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The error that you are a reporting is a package conflict
between a package from the official Ubuntu archive and a package from a
PPA. To resolve this situation please uninstall the package from a PPA
using the tool
This bug occurs when I add the PPA add-apt-repository ppa:otto-
kesselgulasch/gimp repository and install the most current Gimp package.
As a fix, I forcefully install gimp-plugin-
registry_7.20140602ubuntu3_amd64.deb through this command below:
~$ sudo dpkg --force-all -i

There have been pulse audio updates since I reported this, and after
today's updates (and deleting ~/.config/pulse), the two computers that
had the problems now correctly output sound from the speakers.
