Upgrading uClibc in uClinux distro

Hello The Blackfin toolchain to compile its uClinux-dist uses uClibc 0.9.29 from May 2007. I was wondering... 1. Are there major reasons to upgrade to the latest uClibc? 2. If yes, can I just recompile uClibc and add the binaries to the toolchain, or are we required to build a whole new toolcha
