While the size of Marc's database is probably unusually large, the
kind of querying he is doing is pretty common, really.  For instance,
the ACS toolkit does this to allow one to search for users by 
their login e-mail name, which are each unique just like in Marc's
search case.

So as much as I'm eager to see PG 7.0 roll out the door, I'd like
to see improvement in this area.  We're rolling our first major
release of the toolkit to run on PG 7.0 only so I suppose folks
wouldn't notice that these searches are slower than in PG 6.5! :)

(and of course no site using our toolkit is likely to have 6
million users registered in my lifetime!)
