Well java runs faster than ruby atleast ;) Jokes apart, IMO, java only makes sense for 1) Cross platform non GUI applications 2) Web apps ( mainly JSP/servlets ) Java is not a good choice for gui desktop apps. Yeah you do have SWT and stuff. But there are better options, namely ( In order of dif
