MEMBERS of Parliament and leaders from northern Uganda spent Saturday and most of Sunday
holding meetings with the LRA delegation to convince members sign a deal on Agenda No.2.
Agenda No. 2 tackles comprehensive solutions to the causes of the rebellion that has ravaged northern Uganda and spilled over to Southern Sudan.
The leaders, who were scheduled to meet mediators yesterday evening to report their findings, began the shuttling in the aftermath of a Friday session in which chief mediator Dr. Riek Machar blasted the LRA for their reluctance "to engage" and affecting the velocity of the talks.
The Acholi Parliamentary Group, led by Livingstone Okello Okello and leaders from the greater north, led by Pader district chairman Peter Ocheng, held a closed meeting with the LRA team at their camp, Delux Hotel, from 2:00pm on Saturday till late. The meeting resumed yesterday at 10:30am.
"They consulted the LRA high command and we are rushing into a meeting with them to report back to us. We agreed on some issues but there are some contentious issues where they needed consultation," the source said.
"The issues are mostly constitutional. There are also concerns about security. They seem keen on their demand for federalism," the source said.
Sources said on Friday Machar sounded warning bells to the LRA team that time was running out. "Your decision determines the future of the talks," he said
