We haven't established the type of force they were," he said.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers comprised women who kept on blowing whistles, as the men packed things in the shops. They said the attackers were speaking Kinyarwanda, Swahili and Lingara. They allegedly looted, cash, clothes, food stuffs, and drugs.
"The attackers sealed off the exit points, surrounded the police post at the border and fired several shots,” the police chief, Mr Haruna Isabirye, told The Monitor on Monday. He said police reacted by shooting in the air, forcing the attackers to retreat t

They are alleged to have killed a Congolese police officer after crossing back. No casualities were reported on the Ugandan side. Security officials dismissed allegations that these were Interahamwe rebels. "Thugs from DRC have been attacking the district, under the guise of Interahamwe," a security officer said. He said a similar attack occurred in May this year in Bunagana sub-county. |
