US to monitor rebels in DRC |

KAMPALA - The US government will monitor the activities of Ugandan and Rwandan rebels operating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In a meeting on Friday, foreign affairs ministers from Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, in Lubumbashi, DRC, agreed to set a mechanism for the US to monitor the rebel activities. "The parties agreed to set up mechanisms with the help of the US as the facilitator, for sharing of information on the armed groups operating in eastern DRC," a document of the meeting read in part. "The information centre will be based in Kisangani co-located with the MONUC First Division Headquarters and FARDC (Congo armed forces) eastern Integrated Brigade Headquarters in Kisangani" the document said. Mr Augustine Nshimye, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation, led the Ugandan delegation. The Ag.Chief of Military Intelligence, Lt. Col. James Mugira, attended. |
