Over 2,000 Congolese refugees have moved into Nebbi district after two days of renewed
fighting between Lendu militia and FAPC rebels in the Ituri region of DR Congo.

Nebbi district Police commander Okot Araa said recently that the majority of the
refugees were in Jangokoro sub-county where they have mingled with the locals.

UPDF officers monitoring the refugees' entry at the border in Nebbi district said
fighting broke out on Wednesday when Lendu militia tried to overrun Ngothe, a
stronghold for Jerome forces in northeastern Congo.

Security sources said majority of the refugees were from Simbi, Rona and Ngothe towns
in Mahagi district in Ituri. Residents of Padea trading centre in Jangokoro sub-county
said they heard gunshots as fighting raged on Wednesday and Thursday.
