Religious sects warned over noise

By NATION Reporter

Religious groups holding night vigils have been asked to exercise restraint in their prayers to avoid being a nuisance to other people.

Nairobi Provincial Commissioner Francis Sigei has asked district officers, chiefs and their assistants to "persuade" those holding the vigils to control their noise.

"I have received many petitions and complaints about some Christian groups who are disturbing people at night. Noise pollution is noise and it does not matter where it comes from. I urge these bodies to exercise restraint as people need peace."

Speaking to the administrators at his office on Tuesday, the PC clarified that only bars not licensed to operate 24 hours were affected by the order to close by 11pm.

Mr Sigei warned those who flouted the law that they would be arrested and prosecuted.

He asked the administrators to enforce the law without fear or favour and to live by example.

He assured the residents that security would be beefed up during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
