Anyone who's never attended a meeting of the Historical Commission, and who thinks it's all about porches being torn down by Bezonians or Philistines, may find the two case histories of denied permits in historic districts, accessible from the website below, to be of interest.
I am writing to
encourage my University City neighbors to think about attending the Penn-Harvard
football game at Franklin Field tomorrow (Saturday, November 16). It
always amazes me that so many people live so close to Franklin Field and have
never been to a game there. They are great fun.

Hi,
The other day, I received a revised tax re-assessment for the apartment house
that I own, raising the 2003 real estate tax increase from the previous mailing that I
received of about $450 to over $1,300! It was a shock, to say the least. If the city
institutes such a huge increase,

Today, I called the number on the sheet to complain tomy Evaluator who told me that the latest mailing with the higher amount was a computer error and that the one sent in the summer was the correct one. I sent an email to confirm theconversation. Hope the same can happen for you.

Hi,
A local community youth group that specializes in teaching leadership and teamwork
through outdoor activities has firewood for sale.
This wood is from a maple tree that was felled in the neighborhood in the spring. The
wood has been cut and sorted. Reasonable prices. Delivery charges
Does anyone have a medium sized dog cage that could be borrowed for a few
weeks to confine an injured cat? One of our cats has an injured leg and is
under Dr.'s orders to not run, jump or climb stairs. But she doesn't listen
to the Dr. and her house is a cat playground of things to jump on or run
In case any of you missed the opportunity
to get free tickets to the Penn game from Glenn Bryants office at Penn, I have
tickets available. You can pick
them up at my house tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 10 AM until 11:30 AM. Refreshments will be available. If you cannot make it over
This doesn't have a _lot_ of relevance for our local Historic District
issues, but it's an interesting item.
