I know that within my own family, who all live out in various PA and NJ
suburbs, I pay about 20% of what the LOWEST of their property taxes
happen to be! They can't believe how LOW my taxes are. This is also one
of the primary reasons why the Suburbs hate the City Wage Tax -- they
can easily see
At the request of a dozen or so people led by Ross Bender, I've
created a new list called culture. It is for discussion of cultural
things in University City.
Of course, if a cultural event is happening, it's still appropriate to
discuss it on univcity. Some people wanted to be able to
Hey, hey, hey. My posting wasn't intended to be complaint about paying
taxes -- I realize that the City's assessments are not, in most cases, in
line with actual market values and that property values have been sky
rocketing in the area -- I was just curious as to whether my neighbors have
gotten
Who's on this list already? And how do people who want to go on the list get
on it?

Indeed we have. I live in the 4600 block of Cedar. Last year we had a
reduction (I think we were the only ones in all of West Philly :-) ) but
this year we got the 10% increase.

I got mine about two weeks ago. I also thought it was funny that the
increase was the maximum allowed. Wanna bet UC gets the 10% increase
for the next 10 years or so?

Sorry, folks. It's the same as for univcity:
Go to http://www.purple.com/list.html and follow either the web or the
email instructions. Either way you'll be sent a confirmation note that
you have to reply to (to prevent spammers, etc.).

Jeff, nothing to be sorry about. You're just not always dealing with computer-literate people; you have to explain that it's the same as for univcity. :^)

I have about 20-30 feet of circa 1910 wrought iron fence in my back yard.
It's fairly simple, about 3 feet high.
It's free to the first person who would like to carry all of it away.
Would prefer that it be used for a yard in W. Philly rather than being
sold as scrap, etc.
thanks,
John
I know this was discussed on the list before, but I can't find anything in
the archives. Is there a consensus on which wireless phone provider has
the
best reception in West Philly?
I have a Sprint PCS phone that I'm about to cancel because I get no signal
right outside my house in 4600 block
I have Verizon and live in back of you. Reception is mediocre at best (1 or
2 out of 5 bars) although it is great at 40th and Walnut.

Lots of interest in the fence. About half a dozen people have spoken up for it. If
someone doesn't take it, I will post to the list again, but for now consider it spoken
for.
thanks!

Well, my post WAS to complain, and I still feel like ripping hair. My
pocket does not care about the REASON and LOGIC of the increase. I hate
it none the less.
