Well folks,

It's that time of year again! I was strongly reminded last evening as I
entered the West River Drive from the ramp leading off The Strawberry
Mansion Bridge.

I entered heading Eastbound at 5:02 PM with Rush Hour traffic in full tilt
when two cars ahead of me someone slammed into a doe that was entering the
road.

I was able to get into the left lane to avoid hitting the car that was just
in front of me who had stopped in front of the deer. The man who had hit
her stopped a few feet away.

The poor thing was still alive, her eyelids fluttering; SO sad. As for the
poor schlep who hit her the right front side of his car was destroyed.

The mating season for deer starts in November and continues until January, I
believe. Deer will take chances they normally would not during this time
and apparently Rush Hour traffic is no deterrent.

Bucks will charge if you happen to get in the way of a pursuit of a female.

A strong impact will cripple or kill a person, so please be careful. There
are more and more deer in the city (apparently even waltzing into fried
chicken places on 52nd St.) Be cautious especially if you have children with
you.
