Cell phone recycler starts up Texas plant

ReCellular Inc has started up a 50,000 ft2 repair and refurbishing facility in Ft Worth TX. The plant will have the capacity to process upwards of 45,000 phones per month, and will employ about 150 people, 40 in technical positions.

Cell phone recycling bill moves to CA senate floor

A measure regulating the recycling of cell phones in California has passed the state's Senate Appropriations Committee and will move to the floor of the body. Assembly Bill 2901 has two major provisions:

  • Cell phone retailers must take back old units from consumers at no charge.
  • Regulations will be established disallowing sales of cell phones in California that are prohibited in the European Union owing to the presence of heavy metals.
