Subject: [phillyblocks] Stop SEPTA's fare hike and service cuts
STOP SEPTA'S DEVASTATING
SERVICE CUTS AND FARE HIKES
On Thursday, December 2, the SEPTA Board voted to:
· Reduce all weekday service by 20%
· Operate Saturday services on a Sunday schedule
· Increase tokens from $1.30 to $2.00 and cash fares from $2.00 to $3.00
If implemented, this plan will have a disastrous impact on the residents and economy of the City of Philadelphia. The City's representatives on the board have vetoed this terrible proposal and Mayor Street has called on the Governor and the State legislature to resolve this crisis.
On Thursday, December 16, at 3:00 PM, the board will meet to consider overturning the City's veto. We must sustain the veto to allow time for the State to act.
What You Can Do
ü Call the SEPTA Board and ask them to vote to SUSTAIN the city's veto and delay the implementation of these devastating service cuts and outrageous fare hikes.
ü Call or fax the Governor and Leadership of the General Assembly to urge them to have their representatives on the SEPTA Board vote to SUSTAIN the city's veto.
ü Attend the SEPTA Board Meeting and speak out against these drastic service cuts and fare increases.
