UCD (University City District) keeps claiming that it's programs are not about gentrification. Yesterday, as a "housing provider," I received an appeal to contribute to UCD's financial base. The appeal was introduced with a reminder "of the great benefits [I] receive through University City District" then went on to list the ways UCD's "services benefit [my] business."

These were:

  • Encourages more people to live in University City.
  • Convinces them to pay more for the privilege of residing here.
  • Ensures a lower turnover rate from more responsible tenants.
If the second of these, reinforced by the first, isn't about gentrification, perhaps I need a new dictionary.
