I've been googling like billy-o to find out whether that line about a gerbil
is original with Mike V. or if he lifted it from the classics
Herodotus. But it loses a lot of its punch when it's removed from its

Every time I go there, the place wreaks of some kind of noxious
chemical - either some spray against cockroaches or other insect
pests, or mothballs, or both. I find it highly offensive. I guess you
do not notice that!
