Monday, October 25th, 6:30 pm, Winett Hall of Philadelphia Community College (17th, half a block south of Spring Garden, west side).

Topic is the economic impact on people who own or live and work in affected properties.

Of immediate interest to people on this "listserv" in Spruce Hill. But anyone in other parts of UC who thinks the issue won't rear its head in his or her neighborhood is being unrealistic.

Whether you think that the costs are critical or of no consequence, that the "hardship exemption" process is fascist or fair, that a notion of "the greater good" is unconstitutional (5th Amendment) or a stewardship obligation the present has to the future ... attend and participate.

PS: Who knows, maybe those who think that the Historical Commission really does preserve our heritage can convince me I've been wrong for my entire life. I'm ready for a dialog on the topic!

PPS: At the first forum held by the task force, the refreshments were in keeping with the vision of the anointed as to what's best for the hoi polloi -- mostly veggie-oriented snacks. I'd like to be able to announce there will be something a bit more physically satisfying, say high-cholesterol munchies like oatmeal cookies, edam or gouda cheese, and whatnot. After all, even Marie Antoinette suggested that the great unwashed masses eat cake instead of bread (presumably whole grain). One can only hope.
