EDITORIAL/MARKETING RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Part-time position available for sharp, creative college student.
August - October 2003, with potential extension
Job Description
The Associate will work with the author of several forthcoming fiction and non-fiction books, conducting editorial and marketing research on a range of eclectic topics (such as tattoos, charades, advertising mascots and gay studies) via internet, libraries, and telephone. The Associate may also be required to do some proofreading and editorial reviewing of other writers’ texts.
Research will be conducted in approximately 10 hours per week at a rate of $10/hr. A strong sense of self-motivation is required, as the Associate will largely work independently and according to his or her own schedule. The Associate will be asked to explore topics, to write brief summaries of relevant findings, and to organize and highlight full-text copies of key documents. One to two hours weekly will be spent reviewing research with the author and developing the next week’s assignments.
Valuable Experience
The Associate will gain insight about publishing, marketing, and public relations while assisting in the creative and publication process of several books. For a motivated, enthusiastic, and naturally curious student, this position will prove extremely intellectually and creatively rewarding, while adding important experience to your resume.
Qualifications
Strong research skills and an ability to get work done without constant supervision are the highest priorities. A sense of humor, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an ability to think creatively are essential. Background in school journalism, marketing, advertising or other communications fields would be helpful.
