We just got what I think is a fairly reasonable estimate to get our ductwork redone, bring our furnace into the 20th (at least) century, and hook up a central air unit.

My only concern is that they only recommended a 3 ton a/c unit. I realize the summers aren't quite as mean here as they are where I grew up (in Florida), but that sounds pretty weak for an entire house.

We have a 3-story, 2400 square foot twin. They're recommending two returns: one on the first floor and one on the second.

Obviously, my preference would be to get a second (or third) opinion, but it's taken me so long to get a contractor to show up when they said they would and then give me an actual written estimate that I'm getting a little frustrated.

Any opinions? Should I be leery? What size units do others have for similarly sized houses, and do they get the job done?
