if anybody hasn't been to FUEL, i recommend it, it's a really wonderful gallery
set in the old MTV Real World house (which I think may be an old bank). They
have marvelous crowds on first fridays and I've seen some great shows there. I
believe they're all art students.

Subject: [UC] Fwd: Local Art Exhibit about PA Puppy Breeding Operations

Hi guys -

For those who are both art and animal
lovers here is an interesting exhibit that is free and closes on Monday 7/30:
it's called "Puppies Are Biodegradable" and it features original artwork
created to raise awareness of the conditions faced by dogs in the more
notorious of the PA intensive puppy breeding facilities. (For those not aware,
PA is known as the Puppy Mill Capital of the East Coast if not the country, not
a great title to have! Rendell has also recently set up a task force to
investigate the issue and better the conditions.)

I just found out about it because NBC10 News at 11pm did a piece on the gallery
and interviewed the gallery owner, but apparently it has been on exhibit since
July 6th. Much more than simple photos taken of the breeding operations, it's
artwork meant to evoke responses and interpretation from viewers and intended
to provoke thoughtful discussion. The story behind the unique name of the
exhibit is discussed on the website and in the art.

Here is more information if anyone is interested:
Location: The Fuel Collection Gallery, 249 Arch Street, open Tuesday - Sun 11am
- 7pm and the exhibit closes on Monday. (215-592-8400)

Some quotes about the exhibit:

"The gallery is pleased to host a multidisciplinary group exhibition intended
to
create awareness about Puppy Mills. FUEL Co-Founder and Art Director Jennifer
Yaron has created a unique platform to generate dialogue and an atmosphere rich
with opportunity for artists who are passionate about animals. The call to
artists produced a staggering response from both established and emerging
regional artists, and gave Yaron and FUEL staff many submissions to review."

"The Assistant Art Director at FUEL sums up the goal 'We wanted to raise
awareness in a tasteful way.' Addressing various audiences simultaneously,
Puppies are Biodegradable(tm) seeks to provide access, education and awareness
to foster change, and bring to an end the suffering of thousands of animals."
