the same bug here. The solution: load module snd-seq or snd-seq-midi before
running noteedit:
sudo modprobe snd-seq-midi
(Dapper is not loading this module by default!)
This will create /dev/snd/seq and noteedit will start without crashing.

I confirm that the compilation of lirc modules is impossible with actual ubuntu
lirc-module-source package.
Compilation is possible, without any other modifications, with the
lirc-module-source 0.8.0-3 of the debian unstable.

Yeah, I'm still working on it. But my time is really tight these days.
One thing I think we should have is to separate, in bug track, bugs
which are inherently from Ubuntu development (libraries, etc) from
bugs which are associated to applications. This bug is one example.

As a user of lirc with MythTV I have to ask, am I missing something or
is using lirc on Ubuntu RIDICULOUSLY difficult? As far as I can see, you
