I'm not sure if this is related, but it might be. I decided to install
9.10 on another partition so that I had something to experiment with.
During the installation process, once the live install cd starts, an
Xorg crash is reported in the notification area. I recall this
happening the first
I installed Kubuntu 9.10 64 bits in my PC, and I don't needed set the
acpi=off boot option. My intel grafics card works great in Kubuntu. The
bug is just in Ubuntu.

I started to get this bug (9.10 AMD 64) after the most recent updates on
November 4, 2009. The crash is reported right after I log on. I don't
remember what all the updates were unfortunately but I think Xsplash was
one of them. I'm not using Compiz, just Metacity with compositing turned
on.

Do you use kernel modesetting? If yes you should not be able even to boot
normally, not even talking about starting Xorg, if you have the same problem.
But if i understand correctly the kms driver check if something is actually
attached to the port and if not bails out appropriately ;-)

this tends to happen whenever I open Ubutu Software Center, this
specific instance I was starting to search for a twitter client and

I also have an Xorg.0.log file from Ubuntu 8.04 running on the same
hardware (linux partition #3), which seems to work a lot better (stable,
fast, though compiz won't start). I don't know if a comparative
analysis will help, but I've attached it just in case.
