I have solved the problem by editing the file ~/.gnome2/linphone
in terminal do
gedit ~/.gnome2/linphonein gedit write
[video]
enabled=0
show_local=0
Save and exit. Now linphone should start.

Also, the last available version on www.linphone.org is 3.1.2, in ubuntu
repository it is only 2.1.1 I suppose somebody has to update the reps :)

I have a similar problem: The menu is messed up, repaint problems, etc...
My video card is Intel 945GM. Are there any plans to fix it or we have to
revert to the old drivers?
