One more update:
I tried to install to the same system with same alternate CD Raid5 (3x160gd hdd)
Grub 2 installed without any problem to the boot sector of all 3 raid disks.
Also all other disks are identified correctly. (3xsata160gb raid5 karmic+
1x160gb sata kubuntu 8.10 + 1x80gb ide 9.10
As the X64 live CD can install grub without any problem on my computer
(same configuration)(where x64 alternate cant), it seems that the bug is
with the x64 alternate install CD.

I inspect the system and saw that Live CD installs grub boot loader on
the raid partition NOT grub2 bootloader.

@nightman the solution you suggested worked for my computer too.
Yesterday night X64 Alternate cd couldnt complete the install.
Tonight I tried with Kubuntu X64 Live Cd installation is succesfull.

I installed Karmic to fake raid 2x160 gb hdds (raid1) 320gb of space.
Grub failed lilo failed.
I found another 80gb Ide hdd.

I tried to recover the system but no success. I can not retrieve the files
required.
I have one other Kubuntu 8.10 on my pc (another disc) but can not see raid
partition.
Want to give some information.
I have gigabyte Ma770-UD3 mainboard with AMD X2+ 250 Cpu 4gb Ram.

I have the same problem.
Karmic Koala Amd64 Alternate installer CD fake raid with 2 disk.
Everything goes fine until grub2 install.
The grub2 stage never complete, control went to the foreground menu.
Lilo was also unsuccessful.
I tried with Alpha6, Beta and Daily CD of 20th Oct.

Jaunty amsn icon on notification area disaapers when making panel thin.
