The only way I was able to boot was effectively changing the init line,
but this was only because my syntax was wrong and the system would only
boot without initrd loading. I've reinstalled and it's resolved, but I
have no idea what was wrong with my grub entries or initrd.

Upgraded to grub2 in jaunty without problems, then upgraded to karmic and
grub.cfg was not a bootable config
In order to boot now I've had to:
uncomment the line GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true in /etc/default/grub
this may be because of bug 392836 or 406774

The page worked fine for me using the new java plugin. It should work
when java 6 update 11 hits ubuntu hopefully.

Also too, there is a new java plugin that isn't being enabled by
default. libnpjp2.so instead of libjavaplugin_oji.so

You don't have a test applet, but it should work better when the ubuntu
java6 package switches over to the new java plugin in java 6 update 11.

repaint() in a while ( true ) loop in a java applet freezes whole system
External applet windows work fine for me. Hopefully the site will work
better when the next java6 update hits ubuntu (6 update 11), which will
switch to use the new java plugin. Or you can switch to use it now with
a couple of commands.
