I encounter the same problem. I don't have to load an mp3 to cause the

No, this is not fixed in Karmic Koala. Just have upgraded to Karmic, but
the (similar) problem still exists: the system hangs (freeze) after boot
(mouse cursor doesn't moving, Num Lock doesn't work), so only hardware
reset helps to reboot.

Not in dapper, for edgy it could be synced from debian, it builds OK in
an edgy pbuilder and has no Ubuntu changes. Subscribing the MOTU for a
confirmation.
