Adding that line did indeed fix the problem, thanks. This should be the default setting in me-tv, reopening. This is an issue that occurs in me-tv 0.7.14-1, but not 0.5.33-3, so is a regression in me-tv functionality. Having a mute button that doesn't actually mute the program isn't very useful.
