OK, I finally prepared an SRU to fix all the mpich2 issues, including
this one. Patch attached.

* The package uploaded just before the karmic release was done in a
hurry. This update fixes several issues that were missed
I prepared a SRU for this bug, based on my NMU of the openmpi debian
package.

I'm the mpich2 maintainer in Debian.
mpich2 just went out of NEW. I'm not sure yet whether it is correct, but it at
least look in a better state than the mpich2 package in Ubuntu.
Maybe it's worth taking a look, and shipping instead of the currently broken
mpich2 package?

reportbug. See Debian bug #445144. I think that it would be a good idea
to apply that patch in Ubuntu, then to modify submittodebian to add the
tags, and to make it depend on the new reportbug.

Here is a patch for submittodebian. I haven't tested it, since an
updated reportbug is needed first. But you get the idea. I've set the
release to hardy: it's better than having to remember to set it to
hardy later :P

I have verified that, looking at the diffs, debian version 1.0-1 can be synced,
overriding all ubuntu changes.
I also confirm that 1.0-1 builds correctly on Ubuntu dapper x86.
