I can confirm this issue also occurs on a new installation of Jaunty
with cGmail 0.5 installed.

Installation of python 2.5 (the python2.5 package) and changing cGmail
to use python2.5 - by changing the first line of the /usr/bin/cgmail and
/usr/bin/cgmailservice scripts allows cGmail to start.

E.g. #!/usr/bin/python is changed to #!/usr/bin/python2.5

Unfortunately I then receive the error below when checking my gmail account:
"Warning: <urlopen error (1, 'error:140770FC:SSL 
routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol')>"

       Status: Invalid => New
