Just in case this had something to do with medibuntu, I disabled that
repository, and purged the app-install-data-medibuntu and apport-hooks-
medibuntu packages. Then I purged mplayer, rebooted, and installed it
again. Same result.
I don't know anything for sure but it looks like one or both of
I tried installing gnome-mplayer, which doesn't crash, but there are no
window decorations (no title or resize or any way to move the window).
With gnome-mplayer installed, mplayer still hangs, but now it actually

I just realized something else regarding your bug report -- when you
were using the GUI (Graphical User Interface) version of the player,
were you using mplayer, gnome-mplayer, or Totem Movie Player (or maybe
something else)? On my system I find the graphical gnome-mplayer starts
fine but takes
This problem still exists. I've updated the patch to fix the line in
stead of commenting it out.
In stead of a comma inside a string, it should have two strings with the
comma in between.

@loke: surely everyone cares about a healthy file system, but the
problem is thorny. I see several blueprints to handle ordinary
filesystem fsck -- such as moving the fsck to shutdown, disabling fsck
on battery power, asking user if they want to schedule it, etc. None of
the ones I found seems to
