Fixed after reinstall of linux-headers-`uname -r`, I might have changed
the symlink in /lib/modules/`uname -r` by hand before as I was building
external modules by hand.

5.1.1~cvs20090626+dfsg-2 doesn't compile on karmic out of the box.
Version 5.2.0+dfsg-1 from sid does, however, and I put it to my ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~eudoxos/+archive/ppa .
Can this be proposed for karmic-updates, since the current package is
completely broken?

I had the same problem and setting the right owner on ~/.dbus solved the
problem for me. The issue is therefore resolved, except that gconf/dbus
perhaps should say aloud what is wrong by themselves.

After rebuilding the package locally, _tkagg.so installs just fine. OTOH
then I get RuntimeError: Could not find the matplotlib data files from
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/matplotlib/__init__.py:479. But that
one can be worked around by setting MATPLOTLIBDATA=/usr/share/matplotlib
env. var.
Sorry, not the case here. I have matplotlib installed from package. Whe
I run import matplotlib inside a program with embedded python
interpreter, I get the warning, even though I made sure to delete all
*.pyo and *.pyc files:
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pytz/__init__.py:29: UserWarning:
Is OK here now (intrepid, 0.2.13-0ubuntu1), someone reopen if still able
to reproduce.
