Well... I haven't experienced a hardlock in quite a while.. The system
has froze for like a minute or 2 but then unlocks, that could have been
what I was experiencing in the first place only exaggerated. It's still
a problem though, the system should never be unavailable to the point of
nothing

Qsynth fails to connect to jack: zombified - calling shutdown handler

Aeolus dies after a few mins of use, totally locking up all apps
connected to jack and causing a ton of xruns. Killing it is the only way
to free up all the other jack connect apps.

I'll try that, the reason why I think it's RT related is because this

The RT kernels sometimes hang at boot, this always happens with a newly
installed version and periodically afterwards. What happens is the
usplash comes up the dies down and the fan starts howling. The screen
gets stuck on black and only holding the power button will end it.

Performance has really taken a hit with the latest RT kernel... X-runs
are quite a bit more frequent and general performance of the desktop is
poor, it even hard locked on me forcing an ugly reboot. The general
performance of the stock kernel is fine however. I think this may
Ok I added the nohz=on option and ran hydrogen, qsynth, and rosegarden
all synced with ardour through jacktrans(via qjackctl). I recorded the
audio from hydrogen and qsynth into ardour(2 mono tracks). I also had
evolution, gwibber, empathy and skype running. I only experienced 3
xruns at

and performance was remarkable! I don't know what happened the first
time I tried it but it's great now... same test zero xruns! I'm

Yeah something is wrong with the kernel that gets fixed when you
enable this option. Try booting without the nohz=on option and see if
you get even better performance. If that's the case then something is
wrong somewhere and mysteries are no good.

Could be.. I don't use wine really... but performance in my other apps
are fine now. Is it only wine or wine apps that seem crappy? If so
perhaps filing a bug against wine may be the best course of action.

It's unusable, Jokosher can't run more then a few mins before crashing.
To recreate:
Start a new session
add instrument other
hit record and record a few seconds
stop recording and press play
press stop or rewind or any other transport

This problem exist in both the karmic and jaunty versions of Ubuntu.
Whenever I have qjackctl running in realtime mode attempting change
instrument patches in zynaddsubfx causes the it to be disconnected from
jack. The only way to reconnect

without jack support.
