I've managed to get it to work even better ;)
I have my patch and then I changed a line in options.py in this class:
class OptionSelectOne(Option):
...
self.selector = QComboBox(self)
to
self.selector = QComboBox()
I have a problem that it thinks that I have changed a value. But it
might work b
I have tested it some more, and it doesn't really work for me either.
The frame is showing but I still get some errors like this:

I'm having this problem with 4.4 rc1 on karmic.
But I solved it by patching
/usr/share/kde4/apps/system-config-printer-kde/options.py
For me it was that one spinner had a new type. KIntSpinBox that was
unhandled...

two computers, running kubuntu intrepid with kde4.2. One with an intel

I have used dpkg to recover from this bug...
cd /var/cache/apt/archive
sudo dpkg --force-overwrite -i
koffice-data-kde4_1%3a1.9.98.2-0ubuntu3~intrepid2_all.deb
sudo apt-get install -f
The name of the koffice-data-kde4 package might be different.
