Sorry to take so long, I completely forgot about this.
I am now using Karmic and I am not getting repeated messages about SYN
floods. I only found one in my kern.log from 2 days ago (november 8th).
The connection is much more stable but I still get disconnected
sometimes.

Editing the quickbuild action is useless. Kile forgets the new
configuration as soon as the "configure kile" window is closed.
For instance, I am trying to edit the quickbuild button to do

yes, I confirm that setting the quickbuild button action to "user" and the
following command works for me:
latex -interaction=nonstopmode %.tex|bibtex %.aux|latex

Hi there. I experienced this as well. There seems to be AUDIT errors in
Xorg.0.log right after a crash, which I am not sure are related. I will
attach an example.
While discussing this matter with crdlb in the compiz #, he suggested
that replace the compiz "composer" by metacity's composer in gcon
A workaround is to trigger /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager in
gconf-editor.
But thats is not nice. The metacity compositor "sux" according to crdlb
in the #compiz channel.
