The only thing that smplayer does when the option "disable screensaver"
is checked, is to pass the option -stop-xscreensaver to mplayer.
So check if -stop-xscreensaver is really passed to mplayer (you can see
it in the mplayer log: Options -> View logs). If that option is not

"MPlayer UNKNOWN-4.4.1", how can smplayer know what version it is? It's
impossible.
You should send a bug report against the mplayer package instead, as
mplayer is not displaying the correct version number.

I've just installed karmin on a virtual machine. I was able to reproduce
the problem.
At first sight it seems a bug in Qt, sometimes QCursor::pos() returns a
different position of the mouse cursor even if it didn't move.

Actually there's no default audio driver in smplayer. It just gets as
default the audio driver that mplayer uses the first time that smplayer
runs it.
Although if you open the preferences dialog before playing any file,
indeed it displays alsa as default.

In linux, smplayer doesn't handle the screensaver at all, it just passes
the option -stop-xscreensaver to mplayer. If it doesn't work properly
you should report the bug to the mplayer package.

smplayer just passed the option -stop-xscreensaver to mplayer. If that
option doesn't work with your screensaver, as the mplayer manpage
suggest, you'd better report the problem to the autor of the
screensaver.

This is a problem fixed a long time ago.
This happened because by default smplayer passed options like -contrast
0 -brightness 0 -hue 0 and so on to mplayer. That should actually
provide a good picture (it does in my computer) but some people reported
high contrast or similar problems in the video
