could it be problems switching between compiz and metacity? with compiz
cube on you cannot navigate workspaces vertically.

without sync-to-vblank it doesnt matter if the driver is bugg, things
like firefox with scrolling with permanetely tear and be completely
unreadable. It makes the desktop useless.
