This is pretty confusing, the lgettext() call was added to fix bug #161159 - now it appears that non utf8 locales with utf-8 po files get a crash because of this. I changed the code so that it tries lgettext() first and if that fails uses gettext(). ** Changed in: command-not-found (Ubuntu)

I have put one line into /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local : pl_PL ISO8859-2 Then I rebuild locales (locale-gen) and locales were not working. This error was show also, so I've checked: $ LC_ALL=pl_PL python -c "import locale; print locale.getpreferredencoding()" ANSI_X3.4-1968 I don't like it.
