Pidgin doesn't blink because Ubuntu developers disable it for
integration with the indicator applet because it was redundant...

Blinking is the old way of signalling new activity in IM programs in
Ubuntu. The new one is using the indicator applet which pop-up an osd
and a visual notification. As pidgin already has it but not empathy,

Empathy is going to replace pidgin, too. The latter does not blink,
unrelated to the indicator applet. These are two different bugs, really.
Then this may be marked as wontfix if it's so, but it's not the

If Ubuntu retains the option to have a status icon (rather than using
the indicator-applet), than we should make sure it doesn't flash.
