Thanks for reporting this and for your cooperation. Since this has been
reported on https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/36812 , the
issue is being worked at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 . It appears to be
present on any system using Xorg.
** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu)
Thank you. Now I understand. You can not have two functions defined for
the same keypress. It will not be helpful to file this on xfce4.org,
because if Alt+Shift is defined to switch layouts, it wil not work to
switch windows. You need to redifine the keypress for one of these
functions to get
This feature(switching back windows) works perfectly in Ubuntu 8.10 but
DOES NOT work in Xubuntu 8.10. Pay attention that I (as many ubuntu
users) have 2 keyboard layouts(languages) switched by Alt+Shift (by
default).
May be it is necessary to open but on xfce4.org ?

alt shift tab stopped
It is pity that this feature does not work out of the box.
I installed this editor and there I have the same key sequence - no
changes - Please look at attached image. Any more ideas?
I change my keyboard layout by pressing Alt+Shift - this could block
switching_windows_back. try to install one
- My system is Xubuntu 8.10, and this feature does not work for both
laptop and desktop.
- I do not have package compiz (I checked it by dpkg -l). I did not
install it also.
- Case:
1. I run tree applications
2. Press Alt+Tab - go to the previous active window
3. Press Alt+Tab(switch menu
I can not reproduce this in a new installation of Intrepid 8.10.
Did you try the workaround in Bug 150702? (Setting
/apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_windows_backward to AltShiftTab
(in gconf-editor))
You can start gconf-editor in Xubuntu by opening a terminal and running:
gconf-editor
Xubuntu uses the same repositories for compiz as Ubuntu; could you
supply a little more information, please. According to the referenced
bug, the issue should be fixed.
Is this a new installation? Do you have this issue if compiz is
disabled? Could you describe the bug you are seeing?
